Often times, we as jewelry designers face many challenges. Two of my biggest challenges are organizing and tracking inventory. Recently, I decided to start a new system to organize my supplies because everything was totally out of control. I decided to use an old empty dresser that was in my studio as an x-large storage unit. What I did was label the drawers by color and saved one large drawer for all my metal supplies. Here is a picture of the small plastic storage containers that I’m using for small to medium sized beads.

And, then for the larger beads I’m using these open trays…

Unfortunately, my previous storage system would not keep the beads in the same unit so I’d constantly find myself reorganizing them daily.

And, as stated earlier, my other challenge is tracking inventory, so I created a Microsoft Access database to help keep track of supplies. This has been a very time consuming process and hopefully once finished it will run more smoothly than the previous system. I’m curious to know if ya’ll face these same challenges. If so please share your strategies?
